Deputy Minister, Office of the Prime Minister for Labor, Youth, Employment and the Disabled, Hon. Patrobas Katambi said that the 6th Presidency under the leadership of Hon. President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has continued to care for and value people with disabilities (PWDs) and promote the well-being of the disabled community. Hon. Katambi said this today, June 19th, 2023, when he met his guests, youth from the Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Tanzania (ASBAHT), in the Parliament.
In addition, he has said that the government has improved services for the disabled where in 2022/2023 the Government allocated a total of 3.46 billion in order complete renovation of colleges/vocational training centers for the disabled in Mtapika (Masasi – Mtwara), Luanzari (Tabora), Sabasaba (Singida) and Yombo ( Dar es Salaam).
Deputy Minister Katambi also said that the Government in the year 2023/2024 has planned to enable PWDs to become self-employed and employable by increasing opportunities for vocational training. On the other hand Hon. Katambi said that the Government has developed an Electronic System for PWDs to increase the efficiency of access to information for them. The system will make it possible to identify each person with a disability, where they are, what they do and their needs.
Santos Chuwa, the information and Communication Officer at ASBAHT, and a thriving youth member who was born with Spina Bifida, said; “The leadership and delegates of the Department of Youth received an invitation on Monday June 19th, 2023 from the Deputy Minister, Office of the Prime Minister for Labor, Youth, Employment and the Disabled, Hon. Patrobas Katambi for an educational visit at the Parliament. It was a great relief for the youth to meet the Deputy Minister as he gave the opportunity to listen to every youth, and talk to leaders and guardians of the youth department.
