Neurological surgery specialists from 12 countries have set up a five-day camp at the Muhimbili Orthopedic Institute (MOI) to exchange skills, knowledge and experience as part of the implementation of MOI’s goals to make MOI the center of excellence in medical education and training in Africa. The training was commenced on November 20th, 2023 by the Executive Director of MOI, Prof. Abel Makubi who has emphasized that his institution has organized the training in collaboration with the Union of Neurosurgeons in Europe (EANS) with the aim of sharing experience and knowledge.
The five-day training from November 20th to 24th, 2023 involved experts Austria, Norway, Sweden, USA, Russia, India, Czech Republic, Kenya, Malawi, Zambia, Uganda and Tanzania. Chairman of the International Society of Neurosurgery Committee of the European Society (EANS), Dr. Ondra Petr said that they will focus more on practical training to facilitate the transfer of technology to experts. “This training reflects on the mission of our institution, that is to focus on the competence of providing education and training as part of our plan. By organizing this event we are investing in better health services for Tanzania now and in the future” said Prof. Makubi.
