Child-Help Tanzania works to assist children with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus in Tanzania. Shortly after birth the child has to go through surgery. In the case of Spina Bifida, the back has to be closed surgically, and if the baby develops Hydrocephalus, it needs a shunt to drain the excess brain fluid.
Among Child-Help Tanzania’s most prioritized programs is Surgical and Medical materials distribution to Healthcare centers and parent-support groups. Luya’s main role is organizing, coordinating, and managing the distribution of these materials. According to the demand, these materials are distributed to current CHT partners; Dar es Salaam (Muhimbili Orthopaedic Institute, Kimara House of Hope), Mwanza (Bugando Medical Centre, Uhuru Hospital, Kitongo House of Hope, Nyegezi House of Hope), Zanzibar (Zanzibar House of Hope, Mnazi Mmoja NED Surgical Institute), Mtwara (St. Benedict Ndanda Referral Hospital), Arusha (Arusha Lutehran Medical Hospital), Manyara (Haydom Lutheran Hospital), and the Coast (Mwandege House of Hope).
Early treatment and easy accessibility to readily equipped health centers can exponentially increase chances of avoiding permanent damage or even survival in some cases. Any delay could cause permanent damage.
These distributed materials are categorized into surgical (shunts, ETV machines) and medical (catheters, enema bags, cones, Oxybutynin) materials and equipment.

As a country representative for Child-Help International, CHT acts as a transit distribution center of Surgical and Medical materials donated by CHI and partners for beneficiaries outside the boundaries of Tanzania….
Hidaya’s CIC workshop involved training sessions at both Kitongo and Nyegezi Houses of Hope. More than enough stock was provided for Hidaya’s training and for the Houses of Hope.
Preparations for the National Continence management workshop involved packaging of medical materials such as catheters, cones and enema bags and oxybutynin capsules, that will be distributed to parents after training….
